DIY Camera crane jib, made in my dads garage. Henrijib

The camera crane was built because a young director making his first feature couldn’t afford one this big. So I thought lets build one, after much research I started in early 2011 and by that Easter had the first version operational as you can see in the video. It was used here on location for the film Inbred directed by Alex Chandon. www.inbredmovie.com Since then many more improvements have been made and as we start a new year the general response from the indie film industry has been nothing short of spectacular. I’m now designing my own remote head with servos rather than DC motors, it’ll have more accurate control over positioning. Most of the components have been sourced from everyday items, ATV wheels came off a scraped 4 wheel motorbike. I put them on as the first film we used it on was going to be on a beach and I didn’t want to get stuck in soft sand and mud, They worked just fine. Weights came from a health club that went bust. Please see my other video where I changed it from the standard jib to the mini jib in timelapse. If anyone wants to know more about it please contact me here or via my website. www.henrijib.com More information about this film can be seen at www.inbredmovie.com

  5. It gives low budget indie films much better production value. I did a student film that was sponsored by Ridley Scotts office here in the UK. His office couldn’t figure out how they could afford a camera crane.

  12. If your going to make comments best know what your talking about. You don’t understand the physics, when its fully loaded and working you will not tip it over I’ve tried, plus I’ve load tested it with 50 kilo on the camera end. Think about centre of balance and centre of pressure, When both are the same it won’t fall over

  13. Hi. When I was first approached and told we are going to be using a RED, was also sceptical, but I thought what could be the worst thing that could happen I really thought about this. My conclusions, the main arm would not break its 3 inch x 3.5mm aluminium box section, that is really strong, The cable has a breaking strain of 2000 Kilo. This last summer I load tested with 50 kilo on the camera, it all worked fine. It was designed for DSLR but its much stronger than I thought.

  14. Very impressive. Although flying Red cameras on something made in a garage is a bit disconcerting. Overall great job!

  17. Just did! Going to keep a close eye on your progress – big fan of adapting/building, but not in your league.

  18. Thanks, took sometime to put together, but I got there in the end, I learned alot about this science building it. I’ll have my own pan & tilt head in the new year, so if you subcsribe to my channel you’ll get a notice about it. I got fed up with all the expensive crappy remote systems, I decided to make my own.
