See and buy my Photos at: momentsofnaturephotography.com This video describes how mega pixels effect print size and the types of cameras that you should get according to how large you make your prints. The main cameras in comparison are the d300 and 5d mark 2. The nikon d40 as well as large and medium format cameras are introduced in the video as well.

I’ll take the 5×4 film for large print quality, and film can be larger than 5×4. I am a 5D owner

This was made 3 years ago bud, hd was expensive back then let alone available on a normal camera.

What you say is true…its “good enough”. However, to make them GREAT you have got to have the MP to print large. Especially if you want an audience to take you seriously, and buy your work. PS – you might want to upload your videos in HD. Trying to make a point by closing in on your prints, is lost on me in 480p.

Some years ago i had a Canon 1D , APS H format sensor whit 4.1 MP.I let printed out 60X90 centimeters some pictures and you couldnt see any pixel even standing whit your nose close to it.This was only 4.1 Megapixel.

Very real to real video.I have a 5d2 and it is even better than 4X5 large format wet photgraphy,The final print also wet darkroom and not scand in.I have a A zero format print, inkjet, made whit the 5d2 which is razorsharp even whit your nose close to it.You cant see any pixel at oll.Grain has always been the limiting factor when it comes to endlargements.Dslrs have no grain and noise anymore at normal ISO settings. The only thing pixels are limiting are the level of endlargement you wonna do.

I recently ordered some poster-sized prints from a 15MP film scan. I got the prints and was satisfied. Later is discovered that for one photo, i accidently sent them the wrong file – a scan scaled down to 6MP. Didn’t really see a difference in the prints. When pressing my nose against them i do, when looking at them from a meter away, i don’t at all.

No you don’t, you need to calibrate your monitor so that what you see on the screen is what is printed out. Ask your print shop for their colour profile and that will adjust the colour of your monitor to their printers. Nothing to do with exposure.

I want sharper pixels even if its less.Lots of fuzzy pixels just bites.

What kind of film? 35mm? Medium? Large? The 5d Mk2 might come close enough to medium format in terms of resolution (sensible scan of 6×7 being about 30 MPixels), but when comparing to a medium format ISO 100 or even 50 film, MF film easily wins over the 5d in terms of noise (grain on film) and color. You are right after all: Apples and oranges. Prefer a Mamiya 7 for landscape and street photography, use a 5d for low-light and fast moving objects. Also: Objectives matter!

Hehe, quality of digital may be closing the gap between film and digital but robustness of the camera bodies…. well most film bodies can take a hell of a lot more bashing than DSLR’s.

you need the 5d for best vid
nonsense. the 5d is full frame required for good video, the 7d is not full frame
the 5d is purposely made with vid in mind

you still need medium format for quality of detail for large images

Haha, thanks for the compliment. People like you crack me up…seriously. I love it when people get all high and mighty and have to throw around what kind of camera they use and act all tough. Good thing for me, I’m a portrait/wedding photographer and would NEVER need to blow something up that big. So why the heck should I care about having a Mamiya. No thanks…no need. If you’re a commercial photog, awesome. They’re incredible cameras, but I just don’t need it.

you never used either a film or a digital camera othwerwise you wouldn’t talk like an idiot.
I’ll invite you to bring out the your best digital camera out there or even the digital version of Mamiya RB67 and compare it to my film Mamiya RB67 Pro SD , blow up an image at around 2X3 meters and compare the results.
Stop talking trash or else you’ll believe that a webcam is just as good as a film camera.

kid u speak the truth lol! regarding medium & large format film cameras & putting that into perspective with the digital formats. So now i think a d300 will suffice as having a mamiya7 for more printable high quality stuff suits me.
thanks for the heads up on digi info. ::))

Congratz.
I’m a Nikon shooter but I think i’m going to buy a 7D as a seperate body for making video’s. But if Nikon comes with a DSLR that has AF while filming i’m going for the Nikon.Think I will buy a DSLR that can shoot video around the end of next year. Got my pockets empty after buying D700+24-70.
