We just got back from the BEST camping trip at Mt. Whitney Portal Campground in the Inyo National
Forest. The amenities were limited to water and pit toilets. At first, I didn't think I could do it, but the beauty of the area made it a privilege to be there! John got great shots using all the cameras, and of course, Shana came too.

US Forestry Service Cabin

These cabins are situated throughout the area. They were originally built in the 1930s by the original preservers of the Mt. Whitney trail. Summer users are able to lease the cabins from the Forestry Service.
This is the view of the creek from our campsite.

Whitney Portal Campground
|
|
|
This is the area of the campground for RVs. Our tent site was very isolated. We could not see any other campers. And of course, Mt. Whitney looms over everything.

Shana enjoys the Whitney Portal Campground.

Shana has turned into an excellent camper. Pretty good for a wolfdog. Dogs are usually welcome as long as they are always restrained and never left alone.

The Whitney Portal campground has this awesome trail that parallels Whitney Creek. I called it "The Disneyland Trail," it was SO picturesque.
