  1. I seen the audio recorder you use in your second vid. How do you film with this on the go? Is an external mic mounted to you some how when your moving around?

  2. Ah man there were some good waves there :) … I was in Africa and a baboon stole some of my equipment. Wasn’t impressed. I would say go with the equipment you need even if it is expensive stuff. Just go with some muscle and don’t ever leave your equipment out your sight at any moment :)

  8. Thank you, Tom. Yes, I was in Florida and had lots of missed opportunities due to being polite to asking the people first, and then, they shot me down. It was only when I got back home, did I realize exactly what you mentioned about getting the shot first, then as the people to sign the release. This was when I was starting out with still photography, but the principle remains the same. Thanks again.

  14. Hey Tom, I love your channel, it is one of the most useful tutorials out there. I am going to be filming a short travel/event documentary in Mexico in a few weeks. I have a little experience from television reporting in College using Canon XL2s, in mexico I will be using a Canon t2i/550D. Can you give any pointers on how to prepare for filming a documentary?

If you really wanna be different from the regular crowd get the Panasonic gh2 micro four-thirds camera and download the hack software from Ptools and you’ll have an inexpensive, badass camera. Read about it.

If you want to go the dslr route for your filmmaking, then the new Canon t4i is a great inexpensive choice. It records 22 continuous minutes at full 1080 hd. And it has full time auto focus in movie mode. The other Canon dslr models only shoot about 12 mins. and don’t have full time auto focus in movie mode. It’s a good feature that a lot of young filmmakers were really excited about getting.

  28. You should clarify to all the kids watching your videos, that this is extremely basic lighting and that what you are doing in this video is terribly bad lighting. Blasting the face of talent with a bare-naked par is exactly the opposite that someone would do if looking for a glamorous result. Light needs to be shaped, in terms of quality, direction, spread, temperature, etc, etc. I strongly discourage any prospective shooter from using a naked par on the face of a female cast.

  34. 5:24, the light coming from outside should have been softened in my opinion. The shadow of the coffee cup is kind of awkward. Otherwise, excellent video!

Once you can use them with different changeable lenses, could you please tell me which is the best lens configuration for this kind of situations where you need compensate the sun light and which lens is looking as HMI Fresnel in Flood mode.
