Lineside!

Lineside!

For my Final Major Project in the Foundation Year at Ravensbourne College of Design & Communication, I drew inspiration from Buster Keaton, the Ealing Comedies and Mr Bean to produce this short film; to demonstrate the effects of willpower and determination while engaged in an innocent pastime. As an amateur photographer misses the opportunity to get a snapshot of a steam train, what sort of heights will he end up reaching just to get his picture? This is an original short film starring myself and my friends. The music and artwork are my own creations and I own all the rights to this video. Filmed by Chris Eden-Green & Simon AC Martin Starring Chris Eden-Green & Donald Harper With special thanks to the Museum of Kent Life and the Bluebell Railway for helping to make this film possible. PLEASE NOTE: What happens between 4:00 and 4:52 is NOT to be practiced at home. Railways are dangerous environments and are not for playing around on! (4:36-38 was achieved with a split-screen effect). Filming for this production was undertaken with permission granted by Tim Baker of the Bluebell Railway Preservation Society, with a temporary trackside PTS granted for the duration. This kind of filmmaking is highly dangerous and shouldn’t be attempted without the appropriate safety procedures in place. Remember, clever filming/editing helps to assist these without compromising certain illusions. The contents of these videos, including all text and photos (except where credited otherwise

Here is a cinematography time lapse of one of the biggest weekends in the city of Oxford’s history.

  3. Actually, most of the film was my work; Simon just operated the camera.
And that was Bulleid Pacific ‘Sir Archibald Sinclair’

Oh of course, I can imagine that was troublesome! Love the small wheel at the front and the bigger one at the back! I am not surprised the tires kept bursting,. looks like it had a rough time. :P I bet the inner tube of the tires was just covered in patches!

  14. hehe, thanks! That bike was a pain to ride with only one gear, though. And the tyres kept bursting (points to whoever see’s the repairs on them!), but it was a good film to make

The trials and tribulations of a railway photographer crammed into just under six minutes worth of comedy! An absolute pleasure to see it being hosted here. As usual, thumbs up!

  27. I want to elaborate on why I used the phrase “biggest weekend in Oxford’s history” While yes I agree the LSU game Eli’s senior year meant more… Even with the presidential debate I don’t remember the buzz that surrounded the town for months with rumors and the money the Texas fans were paying for renting houses etc. I was here for all three events and IMO this was the biggest over all on the scale that the people that came to town. Anyhow, I hope you enjoyed the video:)
